A Punjab Police constable deployed on special duty at the Ghazi Barotha Canal in Attock district in connection with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's protest and long march drowned while fetching drinking water.
Constable Zain, reportedly from Malakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, fell into the canal while at a place known as Kotkay. He lost his footing due to the fast-moving water and was swept away by the powerful current.
Rescue 1122 and police teams launched a search operation but had not located him by the latest reports.
Fellow officers and others are grief-stricken and angry over the incident. Constable Zain had been deployed to maintain law and order ahead of a scheduled protest on September 27.
