Police are searching for two women and a man who fled on foot from the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash on the A8 near Edinburgh Airport.

Officers were alerted to a crash involving:

  • A grey Mercedes A250
  • A black Renault Captur
  • A grey Skoda Karoq
  • A grey Hyundai i30

between the Newbridge and Gogar roundabouts at approximately 09:25 on Monday.

Despite emergency services’ efforts, the 58-year-old driver of the Hyundai i30 was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police helicopter and dog unit have been deployed to assist in the search for the three individuals who left before police arrived. Four others injured in the crash were taken to hospital but later released.

Insp Thomas Mallinson stated:

"My thoughts are with the family of the person who died at this incredibly difficult time."

He added:

"Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this crash, and it is vital we trace the three people who left the area before police arrived."

Insp Mallinson appealed for anyone with information to contact Police Scotland.

The Scottish Ambulance Service dispatched multiple resources to the scene, including:

  • Three ambulances
  • Two special operations response teams
  • A paramedic response unit
  • A critical care paramedic

The road remained closed for several hours while an investigation was conducted and later reopened at 19:05.
