Primark finally set to launch home deliveries as UK sales struggle

Primark Announces Online Home Deliveries: A Game Changer for UK Sales?

Primark has finally taken the plunge and announced it’s launching online home deliveries in the UK, four years after its first foray into e-commerce.

BBC News reports that the retailer is acquiring a warehouse in Sheffield to facilitate shipping, although an exact launch date remains unknown. Until now, Primark only offered click-and-collect services, requiring customers to travel to stores to pick up their purchases.

The company cites "opportunity for profitable growth" through deliveries, aiming to boost sales after experiencing subdued results following recent hot weather. Associated British Foods (ABF), owner of Primark, predicts a 1% increase in UK sales this quarter but warns that like-for-like sales are expected to remain flat.

Retail analysts note that Primark is playing "catch up" with competitors like Shein and Boohoo, who have reshaped customer expectations for convenience. They emphasize the importance of a robust returns policy and cost management to ensure profitability in the fast fashion sector.

ABF plans to spin off Primark from its food business next year, highlighting the brand’s struggle to compete in an evolving retail landscape.
