Primary Teachers Demand Service Structure, Rights at Mirpurkhas Convention

Central President of the Primary Teachers Association, Shafi Muhammad Sethio, has called for the introduction of a service structure for primary school teachers in Sindh, stating that teachers have been advocating for their legitimate rights for several years.
Addressing a workers’ convention organized by the Primary Teachers Association on Wednesday, he argued that service structures are available for employees in various departments, including naib qasids, gardeners, and watchmen, while primary school teachers remain deprived of such arrangements. According to Sethio, around 120,000 primary school teachers are currently serving across Sindh and have consistently voiced their demands through protests and various forums.
Divisional President Muhammad Ali Sheikh emphasized the significance of education as a catalyst for development, noting that developed societies prioritize providing teachers with necessary facilities and rights. He expressed regret over the fact that teachers in Sindh must take to the streets to secure their basic rights, adding that the quality of education cannot improve without recognizing and supporting teachers adequately.
The speakers also criticized frequent teacher transfers under the guise of maintaining the Student-Teacher Ratio (STR) and the recurring introduction of new attendance applications, describing these actions as additional burdens on teaching staff. They urged authorities to stop such practices, safeguard teachers’ rights, and focus on enhancing educational quality.
A significant number of teachers attended the convention.
