Prince George Set for First Day at Eton College

Prince George, the 13-year-old oldest child of Prince William and Catherine, is taking a significant step in his growth by beginning his first day at Eton College. He follows in the footsteps of his father, the Prince of Wales, who also attended this historic school in Berkshire.

The future heir to the throne will become a boarder at Eton, known for its high fees—approximately £65,000 ($79,000) per year—and distinguished alumni, including 20 British prime ministers. The school is conveniently located near Windsor, where Prince George’s family resides.

There had been speculation about which school the prince would choose upon leaving his independent prep school, Lambrook. However, the royal family opted for a traditional path, with Prince George joining his father, uncle Prince Harry, and great uncle Earl Spencer at Eton College.

As the guide The Good Schools Guide notes, Eton provides each boy with a private single room, offering both ancient buildings and modern facilities. The school’s housemaster system ensures that students are well-cared for, with approximately 55 pupils in each of the 25 boarding houses.

Recent political figures who have attended Eton include Lord David Cameron, Boris Johnson, Kwasi Kwarteng, and Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg. Other notable alumni are actors Eddie Redmayne, Dominic West, Damian Lewis, and Tom Hiddleston. Prince William, in an interview at age 18, expressed his enjoyment of his time at Eton, describing it as a place where he could blend in with other students.
