Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced it will approach the Supreme Court against the Islamabad High Court’s decision on a petition challenging its long march scheduled for September 27.
Sheikh Waqas Akram, PTI Central Information Secretary, stated that the long march would not be postponed and that the party would challenge the High Court's order before the Supreme Court and other higher courts.
During a private TV programme, Waqas Akram expressed regret over Mohsin Naqvi's tone, questioning if it was appropriate for government ministers to threaten the opposition with gunfire.
Recall that in its 37-page judgment on a petition against PTI's September 27 long march, the Islamabad High Court:
- Stated that any activity impacting fundamental rights would be considered a violation of the Constitution.
- Prohibited political parties from blocking highways and roads.
- Directed provincial governments not to utilize official resources and funds for the march.
- Imposed a ban on using government vehicles and machinery to facilitate it.
- Mandated the establishment of an immediate helpline for government employees facing illegal orders.
- Threatened action against those violating court orders and infringing upon citizens' rights.
- Emphasized that public office-holders guilty of violating the Constitution and law would face consequences, as they would be breaking their oath.
