PTI Worker Ishtiaq’s Death: Key Video Changes Course Of Incident, Says Uzma Bukhari

A family member of Ishtiaq stated in the presence of Sohail Afridi that his death was an accident and neither the government nor Punjab Police was involved, according to Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 14th Sep, 2026) Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari revealed that a significant video regarding Ishtiaq’s death has altered the incident’s trajectory.
She quoted a statement from the provincial capital, where Uzma Bukhari claimed that, in the presence of Sohail Afridi, a relative of Ishtiaq explicitly declared that his death was unforeseen and unconnected to any government or Punjab Police involvement.
According to her, the video demonstrates a family member claiming, in the presence of Salman Akram and Sohail Afridi, that no PTI leader had reached out to them or inquired about their well-being for 17 days. She further alleged that Sohail Afridi’s guards then assaulted this individual.
Bukhari also mentioned that Sohail Afridi’s guards had acted inappropriately with journalists in Lahore over video recording attempts. She shared a statement from Ishtiaq’s son, confirming the incident as an accident.
Uzma Bukhari accused PTI YouTubers of spreading false information regarding the incident and characterized Sohail Afridi’s visit to Lahore as a "public stunt." She criticized his treatment of Punjab Police officers during his journey into Punjab, questioning if such behavior was suitable for any chief executive.
She noted that Sohail Afridi arrived at Ishtiaq’s residence wearing dark glasses to gain political advantage while no PTI leader had visited the family’s home in three years. She claimed that politicizing deaths is a common practice within the PTI.
Bukhari pointed out that, while four individuals died in a coal mine in Kohat on the same day, Sohail Afridi traveled to Lahore instead of visiting Kohat. She contrasted this with the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who journeyed approximately 530 kilometers from Peshawar to Lahore to offer condolences and made a second visit within a year.
