Pakistan’s inflation-hit public is facing a continuous burden from petroleum products, with official documents revealing that the government is collecting up to Rs133 per litre in additional taxes, levies, and margins over the actual cost of petrol and diesel.
Actual Costs vs. Government Impositions
- The actual cost of petrol is Rs234.73 per litre.
- The government has imposed Rs131.60 in levies, taxes, and various margins, resulting in a Rs133.02 increase.
- Similarly, Rs122.55 per litre is collected in levies, taxes, and margins on high-speed diesel.
Recent Price Increases
Petrol and diesel prices have seen continuous and record increases over the past three days. As of September 7:
- Petrol was priced at Rs345.87 per litre, increasing by Rs21.88 to Rs367.75 per litre.
- Diesel was priced at Rs378.05 per litre, increasing by Rs14.62 to a record high of Rs392.67 per litre.
