Public Library At Jamia Muhammadi Sharif In Chiniot Hailed As Step To Revive Reading Culture

CHINIOT, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 30th Aug, 2026) A ceremony was held on Sunday at the newly established library hall of Jamia Muhammadi Sharif, Chiniot, under the auspices of the Pakistan Sharia Council, with Sahibzada Muhammad Qamar-ul-Haq Sialvi in the chair.

Maulana Zahid-ur-Rashidi, addressing the gathering, paid rich tribute to the services of the founders of the institution, Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Zakir (RA) and Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Nafi (RA). He noted that Maulana Muhammad Zakir (RA) had played a historic role in the Islamic drafting of the 1973 Constitution, and that Sahibzada Muhammad Qamar-ul-Haq Sialvi was admirably continuing the scholarly and social traditions of his predecessors.

Appreciating the establishment of the public library, Maulana Zahid-ur-Rashidi highlighted the decline in young people’s engagement with books due to the rise of mobile phones and digital media. He emphasized the need to revitalize reading culture and foster a lasting connection between youth and literature.

Referring to Islamic tradition, he mentioned that the Holy Quran was made accessible for public reading at Istwanat-ul-Mushaf, a pillar of the Prophet’s Mosque, during the Siddiqui era. He viewed the library as a continuation of scholarly traditions and an essential intellectual need in the current era.
