Punjab Govt Completes First Wildlife Hospital With Modern Treatment Facilities

LAHORE, (UrduPoint) – Under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the construction of Pakistan’s first wildlife hospital for the treatment of animals, birds, and wild animals has been completed, marking a significant milestone in wildlife conservation and protection. This was revealed by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb during her visit to the Forest Department and Wildlife Command and Control Centre on Tuesday.
Modern Facilities
The state-of-the-art wildlife hospital boasts 12 operation theatres and two examination rooms, equipped with modern facilities.
Marriyum Aurangzeb stated that this establishment is a crucial step towards ensuring better treatment and protection of wildlife under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Development Plans
The meeting decided to create a master plan and business plan to transform Jallo Park into a modern eco-tourism destination through a public-private partnership model. They also discussed installing a technology-based system for early detection of forest fires.
Environmental Achievements
It was informed that Punjab has achieved a historic milestone by planting 50 million saplings in one year, with an additional 10 million being planted during the ongoing monsoon plantation campaign. The meeting highlighted the completion of construction on the Giraffe Cafe and Tree House Cafe at Safari, offering visitors modern, international-standard recreational opportunities in a natural setting, thereby promoting eco-tourism.
Strengthening Forest Protection
The department’s Forest Rangers Force, now comprising more than 5,000 personnel, includes 215 women for the first time. They utilize artificial intelligence, long-range thermal cameras, and satellite monitoring for live forest surveillance. As many as 285 geo-tagged nurseries are operational, with complete records and digital monitoring of each sapling maintained.
Crackdown on Illegal Timber Theft
More than Rs10 million in fines have been imposed during a crackdown on illegal timber theft. The meeting decided to undertake plantation over 1,500 acres at Ghazi Ghat with public participation.
The meeting reviewed progress on Changa Manga, Safari, and wildlife projects, directing that measures for promoting eco-tourism be accelerated.
Marriyum Aurangzeb inspected the systems for live forest monitoring, geo-tagging, satellite surveillance, and modern technology used for wildlife and forest protection during her visit.
