Punjab Govt Takes Steps To Make Public Hospitals Infection-free
The Punjab government has taken another step towards making government hospitals infection-free by introducing specialized vehicles for the safe and hygienic transportation of infectious medical waste.
Specialized Vehicles for Safe Waste Transportation
The Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education has purchased seven specially designed refrigerated vehicles for government teaching hospitals. These vehicles will be used exclusively to transport infectious and hazardous medical waste to incinerators and microwave shredding facilities.
Hygienic Handling of Medical Waste
The interiors of the vehicles are made of specialized, easily washable materials that can be thoroughly disinfected after every discharge, ensuring hygienic handling of medical waste and minimizing the risk of contamination. The dedicated fleet is expected to help ensure the safe disposal and transportation of hazardous medical waste and disease-causing pathogens, significantly reducing the risk of infection spread.
Provincial Health Minister’s Statement
Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique stated that this initiative marked an important milestone in modernizing Punjab’s healthcare infrastructure. He emphasized that making government hospitals infection-free is a top priority, and the provincial government is taking practical measures to enhance infection-control standards and create a safer healthcare environment for patients and medical staff.
