Punjab Govt Taking Practical Steps For Agricultural Promotion: Minister

Provincial Minister for Livestock and Dairy Development Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said the Punjab government was taking practical steps to modernise the livestock and agriculture sectors to gain access to global markets. Addressing growers at dairy farms in Rangpur, he highlighted the following:

  • Protection of animals from deadly and contagious diseases like foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) through the establishment of disease-free compartments adhering to international standards.
  • The free establishment of FMD compartments as a crucial step towards aligning the livestock sector with global standards.
  • Effective monitoring, identification of cattle, implementation of biosecurity protocols, and vaccination are key to controlling diseases in these zones.
  • Termed the FMD compartment system vital for promoting animal exports through improved breeding practices.

Deputy Commissioner Usman Tahir briefed the minister about the district administration’s support for the Punjab government’s initiative. MPAs Aon Dogar and Ajmal Khan appreciated the minister’s efforts, especially regarding the maintenance of FMD compartments, considering them essential for the agriculture sector’s promotion.
