Punjab Literacy Deptt Vows to Expand Literacy Initiatives
Punjab Literacy Department on Tuesday organized a special ceremony to mark International Literacy Day, with participants reaffirming their commitment to further expanding efforts to promote literacy and bring out-of-school children into the educational mainstream.
Key Highlights:
- Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Literacy, Maria Talal MPA, Parliamentary Secretary for Literacy, Chaudhry Naveed Ashraf, and representatives from UNICEF and JICA highlighted the importance of literacy and praised the Punjab Literacy Department’s work in providing educational opportunities to out-of-school children.
- They also recognized and encouraged teachers and students who demonstrated outstanding performance.
- Secretary Literacy Syed Haider Iqbal stated that the Punjab government’s specialized vision had led to the launch of several new departmental programs and initiatives.
- Currently, more than 21,000 non-formal schools operate across Punjab, catering to approximately 700,000 out-of-school children.
The ceremony concluded with a renewed commitment to boosting provincial literacy rates and integrating marginalized youth into the education system.
