Punjab Police’s Alleged Misconduct with Elected CM Sohail Afridi: Unacceptable
Punjab Police’s alleged misconduct with elected Chief Minister (CM) Sohail Afridi has been deemed unacceptable by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Information Minister Shafi Jan. He condemned the incident, stating that leaving a chief minister stranded without support is an insult to state protocol and democratic values.
Jan reacted on X to the alleged mistreatment of Afridi by Punjab Police, describing it as serious, illegal, and shameful. He held the Punjab government fully accountable for the episode. Jan emphasized that any attempt to abduct or forcibly remove an elected chief minister would not be tolerated. He demanded immediate clarification and action against the perpetrators.
According to Jan, "Maryam Nawaz’s goons" abducted Afridi by placing him in a police vehicle, separating him from his security detail, and driving off. He alleged that the Punjab Police left Afridi in a remote area without protection when protests arose.
Jan accused the Maryam Nawaz government of continuing "police brutality" on Punjab’s roads, citing previous controversial statements against Pashtuns followed by this attempted abduction. He viewed it as an assault on federal foundations, stating that attempting to abduct an elected chief minister is a blatant violation of the Constitution, democracy, and respect for federating units.
He concluded by asserting that such actions by the Maryam Nawaz government will face consequences, as they are unacceptable and intolerable humiliations for the elected chief minister of KP.
Meanwhile, Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari responded to the allegations on X, stating, "He himself is sitting in the van and has not been harmed."
