Qasim Bagh Mega Project Nearing Completion, Says DC

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Faisal Saleem on Wednesday stated that progress was swiftly being made on the Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh mega project under the Walled City Authority. The initiative aims to restore Multan’s historical and cultural legacy while transforming the ancient city into a modern tourist destination.
During a review meeting at his office, Dr Saleem highlighted the completion of several project components:
- Restoration and enhancement of Qila Kohna, Damdama, historic shrines, Langar Khana, an old library, modern cafes, a food street, fortification walls, parks, landscaping, and sports facilities.
The DC emphasized accelerating work on the upgradation of Qila Kohna, Damdama, shrines, and stadium while adhering to quality standards and stipulated timelines. He underscored the importance of developing modern amenities without compromising the historical character and traditional architecture of heritage sites.
Dr Saleem noted that the project sought to preserve Multan’s historic identity while providing citizens and tourists with a stunning, contemporary, and globally competitive recreational and cultural hub. The Walled City Project focuses on restoring, preserving, and protecting the historical heritage of Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh.
Key aspects include:
- Restoring the historic fortification wall and constructing retaining walls for soil conservation.
- Developing walkways, green belts, parks, landscaping, footpaths, electrical infrastructure, removing overhead utility lines, architectural lighting, installing modern surveillance cameras, and traffic signs.
The Punjab government has allocated additional funds of Rs 500 million this year to alleviate financial constraints and expedite project completion.
Dr Faisal emphasized that the primary goal of the Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh restoration is to preserve its historical site while transforming it into a significant cultural and tourism destination for domestic and international visitors.
The project encompasses:
- Damdama Museum, a rooftop cafe, Nigarkhana, Municipal Library, and Library Cafe as key attractions.
- A separate initiative is underway to restore the historic library, offering improved seating, a modern cafe, and a green environment.
- Restoring Damdama Museum and other historical sites will highlight their significance while providing visitors with enhanced educational and recreational opportunities.
