In what capacity was Maryam Nawaz’s future son-in-law seated in the front row at the ceremony? Journalist Majid Nizami questioned this in an X post.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 13th Sep, 2026) A new debate has emerged on social media over the seating plan and protocol arrangements at last month’s Victory Monument ceremony, where a family member was present in the front row alongside senior state and military leadership.
Majid Nizami criticized the government protocol, wondering: Is being Maryam Nawaz’s son-in-law such an important qualification that he should be placed alongside the President, Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman Senate, Speaker of the National Assembly, Federal cabinet, Chief of Army Staff, Air Chief Marshal, Chief of Naval Staff, and Commander Strategic Command?
Similarly, journalist Adil Nizami noted that when Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz arrived at the ceremony on August 24, journalists present were unfamiliar with the person accompanying her. He recalled that when Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz arrived at the inauguration ceremony of the Victory Monument, nobody recognized the individual by her side. He later learned that the person was Azaan Jabbar, Maryam Nawaz’s then future son-in-law.
