Railways Police recorded 2,241 cases and apprehended 2,581 suspects during the past six months, as per an SRPs Conference held in Lahore on Thursday.
The conference, chaired by Inspector General (IG) Railways Police Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan, reviewed the performance of Railways Police, crime trends, and professional matters.
The IG instructed officers to take stringent legal action against criminal elements and launch a relentless crackdown on mafias and organized networks involved in illegal goods smuggling via trains. He also mandated strict enforcement against private cargo companies complicit in such activities, including license cancellations.
Key discussions revolved around preparing for a significant anti-encroachment operation targeting illegal occupants of railway land. All SPs were tasked with identifying encroached areas in coordination with Divisional Superintendents of Railways (DSRs), followed by detailed reporting. The Special Branch was assigned to compile a report on valuable railway land under illegal possession.
The IG emphasized zero tolerance for corruption among personnel deployed on train patrols, directing both departmental and legal actions against corrupt officials. He further ordered the upgrading of Railways Police help centers, ensuring competent and efficient staff to enhance passenger services.
Attending the conference were representatives from the DIG North, Headquarters, AIG Administration, SP Lines, and SPs from all divisions.
Two officers, SP Sukkur Sana-ur-Rehman and Lahore Investigation Officer Inspector Akram, received certificates of appreciation for their outstanding performance.
