Rana Sanaullah Advises Jamaat-e-Islami To Defer Protest, Avoid Unnecessary Hardship

A federal adviser warned that calls to bring down the government could create a risk of violence in Islamabad; he made the remarks at a press conference.

Prime Minister’s Adviser and senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah said Jamaat-e-Islami should not put itself through unnecessary hardship and should defer its protest campaign.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, he stated that Jamaat-e-Islami, as a democratic political party, holds sit-ins and rallies within the framework of the Constitution and law. The government had carefully listened to all of the party’s demands during negotiations, while the Prime Minister had discussed important public issues, including electricity, load-shedding, and reductions in petroleum product prices, in detail.
Warning against announcements to bring down the government, he noted that a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate had expressed plans to travel to Islamabad and topple the government. If bringing down the government became the primary objective, he added, there could be a risk of violence. Therefore, he advised Jamaat-e-Islami leaders to avoid putting themselves through unnecessary hardship.
In response to a question, the Federal adviser revealed that an important meeting with the Pakistan Peoples Party had been held at the Governor House that day. The meeting also discussed in detail the tensions and differences that had emerged between the PML-N and the PPP during the elections in Azad Kashmir, with the aim of reducing political tensions.
Regarding the ongoing debate about the creation of new provinces in the country, Rana Sanaullah said the debate had not been initiated at the proper forum, as such matters should always begin in Parliament. He emphasized that Parliament alone would decide whether new provinces were to be created, adding that all political parties would accept a decision made by Parliament.
He clarified that the government could not independently decide to hold a referendum. Describing advance announcements about province creation as dictating to Parliament, the authorized forum, he noted that all views would be presented, and Parliament would give the final opinion. He further stated that the Punjab government had a serious intention to hold local government elections in the province and that all legal and administrative preparations in this regard were being reviewed.
