Regional Director Provincial Ombudsman Sindh Visits Central Jail & Reformatory Sukkur, Reviews Facilities For Inmates
SUKKUR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 31st Aug, 2026) Regional Director, Provincial Ombudsman Sindh Sukkur, Ahmed Ali Qureshi visited the Central Jail and Reformatory Sukkur, where he meticulously examined the fundamental facilities provided to prisoners, encompassing their court appearances, medical, and residential arrangements, cleanliness, food, and other services.
According to a press release issued on Monday, the Regional Director inspected the jail hospital, handicrafts centre, various barracks, cells, and the admin block, along with other sections. He also reviewed the medical facilities, accommodation, cleanliness, food, and other provisions for prisoners, gathering information from the jail administration on several issues.
Qureshi emphasised the jail administration’s responsibility to safeguard the prisoners’ fundamental rights and ensure they receive the prescribed facilities under the Sindh Jail Manual at all costs. He instructed immediate action for repairs and maintenance of dilapidated barracks.
During the visit, Superintendent Central Jail and Reformatory Sukkur, Imtiaz Ahmed, provided a comprehensive briefing to the Regional Director regarding the jail’s administrative affairs and the services offered to inmates. He informed that Central Jail Sukkur comprises 32 barracks and 267 cells, currently housing 1,704 prisoners, including 173 high-risk individuals. He detailed the availability of 8 meeting booths, jail hospital, school, handicrafts centre, and other essential facilities, all adhering to the Sindh Jail Manual.
The Regional Director Provincial Ombudsman instructed the jail administration to enhance the effectiveness of welfare, health, cleanliness, and other basic needs for prisoners and promptly address genuine complaints.
At the conclusion of the visit, Qureshi announced the provision of books for competitive examination preparation for youth imprisoned in Central Jail Sukkur and planted a sapling within the jail premises as a memorial.
