Relatives of Deceased Mountaineer Appeal to KP Govt for Recovery of Body from Swat Glacier
PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 29th Aug, 2026) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and Chief Minister Sohail Afridi have been urged to facilitate the recovery of the body of renowned mountaineer Syed Ali Shah, who remains buried in the Falak Sar Glacier.
The relatives of Syed Ali Shah, a mountain guide who died after falling into a gorge following a glacier burst in Matiltan area of Upper Swat’s Kalam Valley in July 2026, have appealed to the KP government to undertake an operation to retrieve his body from the inaccessible mountainous terrain.
In the appeal, the relatives stated that the body of mountaineer Syed Ali Shah was located using a drone on a glacier at ‘Falak Sar’ in the Mittaltan area of Swat at an altitude of approximately 5,200 meters—a location difficult to reach by land.
The challenging terrain and extreme altitude have made it arduous for rescue workers to access the site and retrieve the body through conventional methods. A helicopter rescue operation is considered the only feasible option to safely recover the body and deliver it to the bereaved family.
The bereaved family pleaded with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and relevant authorities to promptly take action and organize a rescue mission, ensuring that the body is handed over to them as soon as possible.
