Renewable Energy Vital For Energy Security, Industrial Growth: Saif-Ur-Rehman
Pakistan possesses enormous potential for solar, wind, hydropower, and other renewable energy resources, which could substantially reduce dependence on imported fuels and help conserve valuable foreign exchange. Saif-Ur-Rehman, Coordinator to Federal Tax Ombudsman, made this statement while addressing a delegation of industrialists in Lahore on August 23, 2026.
He emphasized that expanding renewable energy would provide a strong foundation for industrial growth, enhance energy security, and create new employment opportunities for skilled youth. To facilitate this transition, he urged the government to:
- Introduce consistent and investor-friendly policies.
- Simplify regulatory procedures.
- Encourage greater private-sector participation in renewable energy projects.
Saif-Ur-Rehman highlighted the benefits of decentralized solar systems for agriculture, small businesses, and households, which could reduce pressure on the national grid while improving access to reliable electricity. He also stressed the need for modern technology, research, and public-private partnerships to develop Pakistan’s renewable energy sector.
A long-term national strategy, supported by effective implementation, will enable Pakistan to move towards a greener economy and achieve sustainable economic development, he concluded.
