Pakistan’s Economic Crisis: A Looting Saga, Says Fawad Chaudhry

India has raised petrol prices by a modest Rs7 per litre, while Bangladesh increased them by 24 taka, yet Pakistan’s government hiked prices by a staggering Rs114 per litre. This is amidst rising inflation and the US-Iran conflict.
Fawad Chaudhry, former federal minister, criticises the government’s economic policies, highlighting these disparities. He notes that while India and Bangladesh made relatively smaller increases, Pakistan’s government has been ruthless in its price hikes.
Chaudhry also points out the irony of rulers purchasing vehicles worth Rs40 billion within three days, while the public struggles with soaring costs of essentials like flour and onions. Furthermore, he draws attention to Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s holiday in London aboard a plane valued at Rs11 billion.
He concludes that without a strong opposition, the current rulers are looting the people, reminiscent of the Mongol invasion of Baghdad in history.
