George Russell reveals he will be facing further grid penalties beyond the one for this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix.
"You get (a limit of) four engines a season, so six races on each, and we have seven races to the end. So I will be taking another penalty... it's pretty relentless at the moment," says Russell.
The Briton is starting from the back of the grid in Singapore due to fitting a new engine, breaching his permitted number for the season. However, he needs another new engine as soon as an upgrade is ready to see him through to the end of the season.
Russell's engine failure in Malaysia thwarted Mercedes' previous plan for him to use his older engine until the upgrade was available at the United States Grand Prix. Now, with no engines available due to multiple failures, Russell must take another penalty.
"I knew I was going to have a penalty," he explains. "The plan was always to go in Austin, and obviously Singapore is the second hardest track to overtake on the calendar... but we don't have the (upgrade) this weekend."
Kimi Antonelli, Russell's Mercedes team-mate, will also likely face another back-of-the-grid penalty when the upgraded engine is introduced, following his previous one at the Italian Grand Prix.
This weekend, Russell will be driving a car with an older specification that was successful in Azerbaijan before Malaysia. Meanwhile, Antonelli will test the new upgrade.
