Russia Strikes Second Major Bridge in Kyiv, Mayor Says

A Russian strike has hit a second major bridge in Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko says. The attack damaged the road surface and trolleybus overhead wires on the Northern Bridge, he added.

This comes after multiple drone strikes on the Southern Bridge since Thursday, marking a new phase in Moscow's attacks. The bridges link the eastern and western parts of the capital and had not been targeted before.

"Hitting the North Bridge. Emergency services are on their way," Klitschko wrote on Telegram on Saturday.

"Traffic on the bridge from the left to the right bank is currently blocked."

Earlier attacks on the Southern Bridge prompted a crisis meeting of Kyiv's defence council, where Klitschko warned that intensified Russian drone and missile strikes were "tearing Kyiv apart". He described the city's current situation as "very dramatic" as Moscow targets its "critical infrastructure, logistics, housing" and other key facilities.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has justified these actions as a response to Ukraine's strikes on Russian energy facilities, despite Russia being the initial aggressor.
