Salma Butt Orders Crackdown on Adulteration and Profiteering

Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, Salma Butt, has directed the relevant departments to intensify efforts against adulteration and profiteering, ensuring the availability of safe and affordable food items for citizens.
While chairing a meeting on the ongoing price control and consumer protection campaign at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, she emphasized the need for stringent measures to guarantee food quality, particularly for milk and meat.
Key directives include:
- Providing effective training to Food Authority and price control teams to enhance their enforcement capabilities.
- Compiling comprehensive data on cold storages and preventing hoarding.
- Ensuring strict compliance with food safety and consumer protection laws among the 40,000 registered businesses in Multan.
- Maintaining detailed records of grain and vegetable markets and strengthening monitoring mechanisms.
- Revising rates for essential commodities like milk, yogurt, mutton, and beef.
- Conducting joint operations for effective implementation of price control and food safety laws.
Salma Butt noted a positive trend in the decreasing prices of vegetables, pulses, and sugar.
Dr. Faisal Saleem, Deputy Commissioner, highlighted the Punjab government’s commitment to providing quality essential commodities at affordable prices. He informed that the district administration is taking stringent action against profiteers and an intensive campaign against overcharging is already underway.
