Laura Baillie has become part of an elite group after completing the "full house" of the UK’s highest peaks.
Reaching the Top
Reaching Carn na h-Easgainn in the Highlands at 2,025ft (617m), the 38-year-old Scot becomes one of approximately 100 individuals to stand on every summit in Scotland and beyond. This includes Munros, Munro Tops, Corbetts, Grahams, Donalds, and Furths in England, Wales, and Ireland.
The Challenge
The Scottish Mountaineering Club’s challenge required Laura to tick off all these peaks, many of which are remote and pose significant challenges. She is among the youngest women to accomplish this feat, which often involves years of trekking across the UK and Ireland.
A Special Moment
Laura chose Carn na h-Easgainn as her final ascent so that family and friends could be present for her achievement. Even her 89-year-old grandmother was able to join Laura on the summit near Tomatin, south of Inverness.
"I left that one for last so that friends and family can join," Laura said. "I left them a super-easy one; it’s an estate track all the way up."
The Journey
Laura’s journey involved countless early mornings, weekends away, navigating remote routes, wild camping, and enduring various weather conditions. She noted that the Corbetts were the most difficult due to the challenging terrain, bracken, and unpredictable weather.
"The more experience you get," she told BBC Radio Scotland, "’the more confident you have."
