Secretary Local Govt Reviews Clean Water, Sanitation Projects

Punjab’s Secretary Local Government Zaid bin Maqsood visited Multan on Tuesday and received a detailed update on the progress of several development programs, including:
- Punjab Development Programme
- Punjab Cities Programme
- Suthra Punjab
- Misali Gaon
and other initiatives.
Commissioner Multan Amir Karim Khan, Director General Suthra Punjab Umar Javed, Deputy Commissioner Multan Dr Faisal Saleem and other officials attended the meeting, with representatives from across the division participating via video link.
The discussion focused on:
- Clean water
- Water supply
- Comprehensive sewerage
- Storm water drainage
- Sanitation projects
across Multan Division.
Commissioner Amir Karim Khan presented an overview of ongoing developments and cleanliness projects, their pace, and progress on various schemes. A summary was also given on initiatives under the Punjab Inclusive Cities Programme, providing water supply, sewerage, and drainage infrastructure to 16 cities.
Specific measures discussed for Multan Division included:
- A comprehensive water supply, sewerage, and storm water drainage project in Shujabad.
- Addressing drainage issues in urban areas.
Under the "Misali Gaon" (Model Village) program:
- Water supply
- Sewerage
- Drainage
- Paved streets
- Streetlights
- Children’s parks
were provided to 17 villages in Multan district.
The meeting also reviewed cleanliness operations, waste collection efforts, manpower, and machinery utilized under the Suthra Punjab program within Multan Division. Data presented revealed that Multan District generates 2,371 tonnes of waste daily, with over 38,582 tonnes collected in August.
Secretary Local Government Zaid bin Maqsood emphasized the need to:
- Maintain project pace and quality
- Ensure effective monitoring
- Guarantee timely delivery of essential services in both urban and rural areas.
