Section 144 Imposed Across Punjab For 5 Days

Gatherings of more than five people, processions, rallies, and the display of weapons have been banned in Punjab for a period of five days, from September 13 to 17.
According to the government orders:
- Public places, highways, and open spaces across all districts of Punjab will be off-limits for gatherings of five or more people.
- Processions, public meetings, and protest gatherings are strictly prohibited.
- Citizens are not allowed to carry or display any kind of arms or weapons in public.
The Punjab Home Department has stated that organizing or participating in illegal gatherings, inciting such activities, or funding them will be strictly forbidden. However, exemptions include:
- Wedding ceremonies, funeral prayers, burial rites, and regular worship activities at mosques and other places of worship.
- Court proceedings, government office operations, and officially sanctioned events with prior permission.
- Law-enforcement agencies and security personnel on duty can carry and use weapons for security purposes.
These strict emergency measures were implemented due to serious security threats to public peace and citizens’ lives, as reported by law-enforcement agencies and intelligence disclosures. The ban aims to prevent potential sabotage by proscribed terrorist organizations targeting public gatherings and rallies.
The Punjab home secretary, exercising powers under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, imposed the ban to address these immediate law-and-order concerns.
