Selena Gomez: Vaping Has Affected My Voice, Says Singer
Selena Gomez has revealed that vaping nicotine has changed the way her voice sounds. In a candid Instagram post, the 34-year-old singer and actress shared, "I'm not gonna be able to change my voice. I vaped nicotine a lot."
"Nicotine is so hard to quit and I just wanted to say, if you're going through it, or if you're even trying to vape, it's just not worth it," she continued, adding that vaping "changed my voice" and she understands if "people don't like listening to [her] voice."
Gomez, who has the chronic autoimmune disease lupus, has previously attributed voice changes to her condition. She noted that nicotine can exacerbate lupus symptoms, especially in relation to the vocal cords.
In the Instagram story, Gomez mentioned she has recently quit nicotine and expressed hope for maintaining her new habit. "It's really hard, but I know if you are going through something you can get through it too. It sucks."
Her fans have shown support, praising her openness about addiction. Some, however, expressed concern about her nicotine use given her kidney transplant from friend Francia Raisa in 2017.
Gomez first disclosed her lupus diagnosis in 2015, after a 2013 tour was abruptly ended due to health issues. She received a kidney transplant from Raisa in 2017, which helped put her lupus into remission for a period.
