Senior Journalists Engage With Rural Women Leaders, Entrepreneurs in Khairpur – UrduPoint

Senior journalists from Karachi held a community dialogue with rural women leaders, entrepreneurs, and artisans at Village Muhammad Nawaz Rind in District Khairpur on Monday. This interaction was part of their fourth-day exposure visit to the Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO).
Led by renowned journalist and media analyst Mazhar Abbas, the delegation included: Owais Toheed, Suhail Sangi, Ajiz Jamali, Nazish Brohi, Akram Khan, Hanifa Ameer, Jawaid Saba, and Asad Mumtaz.
Chief Executive Officer of SRSO, Muhammad Dittal Kalhoro, along with Regional General Manager Aamir Abbas, Khairpur Region, and District Manager Khairpur welcomed the delegation and facilitated the interaction.
During their visit, the journalists:
- Toured resilient houses being constructed under the Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) project.
- Interacted with beneficiaries to understand the impact of low-cost, flood-resilient housing.
Twenty stalls were set up to showcase various enterprises and traditional crafts supported by SRSO under the People’s Poverty Reduction Program (PPRP), funded by the Government of Sindh. The delegates visited these stalls, discussed initiatives, challenges, and positive impacts on women’s livelihoods.
Representatives from Local Support Organizations (LSOs), Village Organizations (VOs), and Community Organizations (COs) presented their organizational profiles, highlighting key interventions such as:
- Interest-free loans
- Low-cost housing
- Kitchen gardening
- Vocational training
- Other community development initiatives
Women leaders and entrepreneurs shared inspiring case studies, demonstrating how collective action, access to resources, and livelihood opportunities empower rural women to overcome poverty.
The delegation members expressed appreciation for the commitment, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit of rural women, acknowledging SRSO’s community-driven approach towards poverty reduction and women’s social and economic empowerment with the support of the Government of Sindh.
