Sohail Afridi’s Abduction Claim from Police Van Appears Exaggerated

Awami Raj Party leader Iqrar ul Hassan has stated that Sohail Afridi’s allegation of being abducted while sitting in a police van appears exaggerated. He argues that such actions should be avoided for political gain, as claiming the abduction or arrest of a chief minister is serious and could stoke hatred between provinces.
According to Hassan, videos of Afridi circulating online depict him as lighthearted and attention-seeking, not befitting of a chief minister. He emphasizes the Punjab government’s responsibility to honor visiting leaders.
Afridi had claimed that Punjab Police attempted to abduct him in Lahore, leaving him in the middle of the road. This, he said, is a serious matter and could lead to prejudice between provinces.
Background:
Remember that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was himself filmed sitting in a police van at Masjid Shuhada Chowk to secure the release of his workers. He insisted he would not leave until they were freed.
Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari responded by questioning Afridi’s credibility, stating: "You sat in the van yourself… It was staged and cheap acting." She added that Punjab will respond appropriately.
