Stormy Rains Lash Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Other Areas, Low-Lying Areas Inundated

Vehicles were damaged by falling trees, two people were injured and power was disrupted as rain in Peshawar helped break the heat, while the PDMA warned of rain, urban flooding and landslides in Punjab districts until September 17.

- ISLAMABAD/PESHAWAR/KARACHI (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 12th Sep, 2026) Stormy thunderstorms and rain lashed the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, as well as other parts of the country, inundating low-lying areas and causing intermittent power outages in various sectors.
In Islamabad:
- Strong winds caused the concert stage at the sports Complex to collapse.
- Trees fell on vehicles in F-10, damaging them and disrupting traffic.
- Electricity supply was suspended in several areas due to strong winds.
In Peshawar:
- Heavy winds and rain also lashed Haripur, while two people were injured after a tree fell in Piniyan.
- Water accumulated on roads.
- Light rain was reported in various areas.
In other parts:
- Thunderstorms in parts of Attock and Neelum, Azad Kashmir, made the weather pleasant.
- Batkhela received stormy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, causing streams and drains to swell and disrupting the electricity transmission system.
- Swabi also received heavy rain, creating difficulties for residents after low-lying areas were inundated.
Forecast
The Meteorological Department has forecast more rain across the country until September 17.
A spokesperson for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said the ninth and final spell of monsoon rains began on Saturday, with rain expected in most districts of the province until September 17.
Rain is expected in:
- Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang and Attock.
- Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Wazirabad, Hafizabad, Kasur, Okara, Nankana Sahib, Sargodha, Khushab and Noorpur Thal.
- Mianwali, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan.
Landslides are feared in Murree, Galyat and hilly areas.
Urban flooding is feared in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala and Faisalabad.
