Suspected Robber Killed In Encounter With CCD Police

A suspected robber was killed allegedly in firing by his own accomplices during an encounter with Crime Control Department (CCD) police near Faizpur Mines Canal, while two armed suspects managed to escape under the cover of darkness, police said on Tuesday.
According to police sources, a CCD Multan team was conducting routine patrolling near Pull Dera Machine when three suspicious men riding a black Honda 125 motorcycle attempted to flee after spotting the police party. The suspects allegedly tried to turn the motorcycle around but fell due to high speed. They then abandoned the motorcycle and opened fire on the police personnel, who took cover behind the official vehicle and nearby trees and returned fire in self-defence.
The exchange of fire continued for some time, police said. Meanwhile, one of the suspects sustained serious injuries allegedly from firing by his own accomplices and fell near the canal. The other two suspects continued firing and escaped towards Pull Mithu and Saddar Bypass under the cover of darkness, according to police.
Rescue 1122 was called to provide medical assistance to the injured suspect; however, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Rescue officials also confirmed his death.
The deceased was identified as Shehryar alias Sheri, a resident of Ward No.1, Vehari district. Police said he was a previous offender. Police recovered a locally made 30-bore pistol, two live bullets and cash from near and from the possession of the deceased. Several 30-bore spent shells were also recovered from the scene and secured as evidence for forensic examination. The body was shifted to Nishtar Hospital, Multan for postmortem examination.
A search operation and snap checking were underway in the area to apprehend the two fleeing armed suspects, police said.
