Suspected Robber Wanted In Over 40 Cases Killed In Alleged Police Encounter
MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Sep, 2026) A suspected robber, allegedly wanted in connection with a bank cash robbery and more than 40 other criminal cases, was killed in an alleged police encounter near Askari Bypass, while his accomplices managed to escape under the cover of darkness, police said.
According to police, teams of the Crime Control Department (CCD) Multan, acting on intelligence information and using modern technology, pursued a group of suspected robbers who were allegedly planning to commit a crime. The pursuit culminated in an encounter near Askari Bypass, where police claimed the suspects opened direct fire on the officials and their vehicle. The police personnel retaliated, resulting in the death of one suspect, identified as Ajab Khan, son of Khizar Khan, a resident of Lahore. His accomplices reportedly fled the scene taking advantage of darkness.
Police said the deceased suspect and his accomplices were allegedly involved in two recent major robberies in Multan. These included an armed robbery targeting a citizen carrying cash after withdrawing money from Meezan Bank near Chungi No. 9, within the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station, and a cash robbery at a medical store in the Ghanta Ghar area.
CCD officials said the gang was traced within 96 hours with the help of modern information technology and human intelligence.
Police claimed to have recovered cash, a 30-bore pistol, and bullets from the deceased suspect. According to police records, Ajab Khan was wanted in more than 40 cases registered in different cities across Punjab, involving alleged bank cash robberies, motorcycle snatching, vehicle theft, and other serious offences.
Meanwhile, the CCD has expanded search operations in various areas to trace and arrest the suspects who escaped, police said.
