Suthra Punjab Lahore Launches E-challan to Curb Littering, Waste Burning
UrduPoint (September 01, 2026) – Suthra Punjab Lahore has initiated an e-challan system to combat littering in the city, as part of its cleanliness drive to make Lahore waste-free.
An awareness event was held at Liberty Chowk, attended by Deputy Commissioner Lahore, Capt (Retd) Ali Ejaz, and Suthra Punjab Lahore Chief Executive Officer, Sheryar Arif Khan.
CEO Sheryar Arif Khan revealed that e-challans for littering would be implemented from September 1, 2026. He stated that anti-littering squads have been deployed to monitor roads, markets, and commercial areas across the city. Initially, people found littering will receive warnings and education on cleanliness laws, but strict legal action will be taken against repeat offenders. Heavy fines, ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000, will be imposed for littering in public places.
The Suthra Punjab Lahore anti-littering squad operates under the Punjab Local Government Act 2025 and the Suthra Punjab Authority Act 2026. These laws stipulate fines from Rs 1,000 to Rs 50,000 for maintaining unclean surroundings outside residential, commercial, or industrial premises.
Burning waste is prohibited and can result in a fine of Rs 100,000 to Rs 500,000 and up to two years’ imprisonment. Burning tires by a factory or individual is a serious offense, carrying a fine of up to Rs 500,000 and up to seven years’ imprisonment.
To ensure transparency, all fines must be paid through banking or digital channels, with no cash payments accepted by officials.
CEO Sheryar Arif Khan emphasized that the anti-littering squad aims to make Lahore entirely waste-free. He added that awareness campaigns are being conducted to educate citizens about responsible waste disposal and the relevant cleanliness regulations.
