Nepal-Tibet Flash Floods: Missing Indian Pilgrims

BBC News reports on the devastating flash floods in Nepal that have left nearly 300 Indians missing, including Subhrasree Chakraborty, who embarked on a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash.

Sudipto Bhattacharya, Subhrasree's husband, received what would be her final message on Wednesday, June 22nd, at 07:57 local time, confirming her successful border crossing into China. Just six minutes later, at 08:03, communication ceased.

Subhrasree, a 43-year-old medical technologist, was part of a group of approximately 30 pilgrims, many of whom were also reported missing. Despite her fitness and medical expertise, her fate remains unknown.

Backhome, Subhrasree's messages to her husband captured her excitement for the journey. Her last photographs, taken in Kathmandu, show her smiling and posing against the city's historic backdrop.

The pilgrimage began on August 21st, with Subhrasree taking the Mithila Express from Kolkata and reaching Nepal. After three nights in Kathmandu, the group left for Syabrubesi on August 25th, facing a four-hour delay due to a landslide.

Subhrasree messaged her husband about the good weather, though little did he know that a severe flash flood was imminent. The next morning, she left her hotel at 7 am, and their messages continued afterward.

The group's plans were cut short, and the scale of the tragedy is still unfolding.
