Travelodge review: A 'emotional read' for security victim
BBC News reports on a review highlighting serious issues with room security at Travelodge, following a disturbing incident at their Maidenhead branch in 2022.
A Woman's Experience
Wendy Griffith, a guest at Travelodge London Stratford in July 2025, shared her harrowing tale. She was targeted by a naked man who banged on her door and performed "vile" sex acts in the hotel corridor. She recalls feeling "trapped" and unable to contact staff despite multiple attempts.
The Review's Findings
The review by barrister Paul Greaney KC revealed a concerning trend: nearly one in ten Travelodge hotels had reported room intrusions in the summer. Shockingly, no policy addressed violence against women and girls.
Griffith's Reaction
Griffith found the review both validating and distressing. She expressed sadness and frustration over the delay in addressing these issues, stating that women had to endure such experiences before significant action was taken.
Travelodge's Response
In their response, Travelodge apologised unreservedly to the victim and acknowledged failures in room access security and complaint handling. They are now working with the Suzy Lamplugh Trust to develop a policy on personal safety.
