Dallas, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News) – President Donald Trump has promised that every adult American will receive $5,000 if the Republican Party retains control of Congress in the midterm elections.

Trump announced the "Trump Dividend" while addressing the Republican Party’s midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, as he sought to encourage American citizens to support his party in the elections scheduled for November.
According to the Associated Press, a Republican official, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed doubts about the plan and called it “a desperate attempt to change the political environment.” Texas Republican Congressman Chip Roy also questioned where the government would obtain more than $100 billion for the plan.
Trump provided few details, saying only that the money would be given exclusively to American citizens and would have to be spent within the United States. The amount would be far greater than the aid provided during the COVID-19 pandemic and could significantly increase the US budget deficit.
Trump compared it with the $1,776 dividend announced for military personnel in December 2025. However, that payment was actually a military housing allowance already approved by Congress, not a new special government program.
Trump said he would give $5,000 to every adult American, just as a successful company distributes cash among its shareholders. It remains unclear where the money for the payments would come from. Trump said only that the plan would be possible because of America’s “tremendous economic success.”
According to the US Census Bureau, there are approximately 240 million adult citizens in the United States. At $5,000 per person, the government could have to spend approximately $1.2 trillion, according to the figure cited in the report.
The US media and social media have subjected the president to strong criticism, with voters even in traditionally Republican states calling the proposal an insult to American citizens.
