The White House has faced intense public and political criticism after US President Donald Trump released a new television advertisement produced with taxpayer funds. According to a US magazine, the ad, broadcasted a few weeks before the November midterm elections, clearly states at the end that it was paid for by the US government.
The advertisement aired on Fox Network during two major NFL games on Sunday. It features President Trump walking through a corridor while a 2023 speech plays alongside. In the speech, Trump declares: "This is the last battle. We will drive out the communists, Marxists and fascists. We will eliminate the sick political class that hates our country, defeat the fake news media, and free America from these villains forever."
The ad closely resembles a video from Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, although the campaign logo and text number have been removed from the current advertisement. Ad Impact, an organization that monitors advertising, reports that this is the third recent Trump advertisement produced with US government funds.
The White House has defended the advertisements, stating they were created for public awareness and information, not campaigning, and aim to promote nationalism and patriotism. The White House has described the campaign as educational and explicitly patriotic, emphasizing its national pride agenda.
Meanwhile, Common Cause, a government watchdog organization, has raised questions about whether using public funds in this manner might violate laws against government propaganda.
