Thomas Tuchel regrets not eating any of the grass at the Azteca Stadium after England's World Cup win against Mexico.
In an interview with Daniel Sturridge for the FA's 'Reflections: England's World Cup Journey' feature, Tuchel shared a bizarre admission. He expressed regret for not consuming some of the turf at the iconic stadium after the victory in July.
"I texted a friend after the match and I just wrote, 'I regret that I didn't eat some grass after the match to keep something from this in my body forever'. That was the feeling. That was the moment."
England's triumph marked their first defeat of Mexico at the stadium in 90 competitive matches over three decades. Tuchel praised the "huge bond" within the team, highlighting the support shown for Jordan Henderson following his injury during celebrations.
He described it as one of the campaign's highlights, adding: "This game had so much of what you could wish for."
England next face Spain on September 26 in their 2026-27 UEFA Nations League opener, with the European Championships also in their sights. Confident of ending England's trophy drought, Tuchel stated: "I'm very excited. I think we got another step closer and I think we're there."
