Two Cases Registered Against Citizens For Offering Bribes To Police

Police on Tuesday launched action against individuals offering bribes, aiming to ensure transparency and merit within the police system. They registered two cases against citizens allegedly attempting to influence police proceedings under Section 162 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
At New Anarkali, suspect Muhammad Jafar was accused of trying to offer Rs.5000 to settle a matter. Police seized the money as evidence and arrested him. In another incident at Misri Shah, Umar Farooq allegedly offered Rs.1000 to a guide constable on behalf of a friend. The amount was also confiscated as evidence, and he was taken into custody.
Lahore Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations, Faisal Kamran, stated that strict action would be taken against police officers found demanding bribes. He emphasized that offering bribes to avoid legal action or secure favors from the police is itself a crime, adding that no exceptions would be made for either party.
The DIG highlighted that elimination of corruption, ensuring transparency, and providing justice to citizens on merit are top priorities for Lahore Police. He revealed a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, promising timely justice and relief to citizens while making the police system free from corruption a priority.
