UAE Accelerates Drive To Take National Products To Global Markets
The UAE continues to strengthen an integrated ecosystem linking domestic production with quality, innovation, technology, supply chains, and global markets, enhancing the competitiveness, resilience, and sustainability of the national economy.
Approach and Priorities:
This approach spans the entire production cycle, from agriculture and food production to advanced manufacturing, product identity, marketing, and exports. It also directs government and institutional demand towards priority national products.
Key Initiatives:
-
National Project for the Protection of Geographically Defined Products: Approved by the Cabinet in April, this project identifies and protects agricultural, industrial, and traditional products associated with specific areas of the UAE. It aims to increase the presence of national products in retail outlets and digital platforms and facilitate manufacturers' access to major supply chains.
-
National Agriculture Centre (NAC) and Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA): They have launched the National Project for UAE Good Agricultural Practices (UAE GAP) to raise local production standards and improve market access. The program aims to have 80% of local farms obtain UAE GAP certification.
-
National Agricultural Initiative for the Adoption of Climate-Smart Crops: This initiative diversifies the national food basket and reduces reliance on imports.
-
Sustainable Product Initiative: Seeks to increase the share of locally produced agricultural and livestock products used by the UAE's restaurant and hotel sector to 25 percent.
-
National Industrial Resilience Fund: An AED1 billion fund has been approved to support the localization of critical industries, strengthen supply chain resilience, and accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence across production, operations, and planning.
-
National In-Country Value Programme: Mandatory in selected sectors, this program channels more government and institutional demand towards national products and strengthens their integration into supply chains.
-
Make it in the Emirates Platform: Connects investors, manufacturers, and industry leaders with domestic production and investment opportunities.
-
ADNOC's Local+ Initiative: Gives priority to UAE-manufactured products across its projects.
-
Al Taweelah Recycling Plant: The largest aluminium recycling plant in the UAE, with an annual capacity of 185,000 tonnes, enabling local processing of aluminium scrap into high-quality, lower-carbon products.
-
Factory Forward UAE Initiative: Launched by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology to drive industrial growth and innovation.
