UAE Deepens Its Engagement in Financial Cooperation and Development Finance at BRICS and New Development Bank Meetings in India

The United Arab Emirates, represented by the Ministry of Finance, actively participated in the second meeting of BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, held in Mumbai, India, on September 10, 2026. The UAE delegation, led by Mohamed bin Hadi Al Hussaini, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, included several officials and specialists from the Ministry, along with representatives from the UAE Central Bank.

A Testimony to Committed Multilateral Cooperation

The UAE’s involvement underscores its dedication to fortifying multilateral financial and economic cooperation, fostering dialogue on pressing issues faced by emerging and developing economies. This engagement is a testament to the country’s role in supporting economic coordination and collaboration among BRICS nations.

Key Discussions and Outcomes

The meeting addressed a wide range of shared priorities for finance ministries and central banks within the BRICS group, considering the challenges emerging and developing economies currently face. It also marked the launch of the BRICS-NDB Knowledge Portal and adopted a joint statement by BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors.

Mohamed bin Hadi Al Hussaini expressed his perspective:

"BRICS is a vital platform for strengthening international economic cooperation and coordinating positions on financial and economic issues of common interest, particularly in light of the challenges facing emerging and developing economies."

He further emphasized the UAE’s commitment to contributing best practices, case studies, and national expertise to the Knowledge Portal.

Emphasizing Continuous Cooperation

The UAE welcomed the formation of the BRICS Task Force on Growth and Development for 2026, highlighting the importance of its continued work in areas like digital transformation, growth-enhancing reforms, labor mobility, and cultivating future skills and talent. The country also underscored the necessity of seamless coordination among successive BRICS presidencies to ensure the continuity of initiatives and achieve long-term impacts.

As part of these meetings, the Ministry of Finance delegation also attended the Special Meeting of the New Development Bank’s Board of Governors. The agenda covered discussions on the New Development Bank’s operations and strategic direction.
