UET Lahore Students Visit SK Hydropower Project for Academic and Technical Exchange

ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 18th Aug, 2026) More than 70 students and faculty members from the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, Narowal Campus, visited the underground powerhouse and damsite of the Suki Kinari (SK) Hydropower Project as part of an academic exchange and on-site study program.

Warm Welcome and Preparations

As the project owner, S K Hydro (Private) Limited extended a warm welcome to all visiting teachers and students, and made thorough preparations, including route planning, on-site technical briefings, and safety awareness training.

On-Site Presentations and Tour

During the visit, technical experts from the project, Masab Ali, provided comprehensive presentations covering the project’s core technologies, construction techniques, and operation and management systems. The visitors were highly impressed by the advanced construction schemes, such as the underground powerhouse, 23.1 KM headrace tunnel, surge shaft, penstock, and intelligent operation and maintenance management systems.

Commending Teamwork and CSR Initiatives

The visiting teachers and students praised the efficient coordination and excellent teamwork of the Chinese and Pakistani on-site staff. They also appreciated the project’s ecological protection and public welfare initiatives, showcasing its corporate social responsibility.

Gratitude and Learning

The delegation expressed gratitude for the professional technical sharing and thoughtful reception. They noted that this on-site study enhanced their practical engineering skills and broadened their academic horizons in civil engineering. They also gained insights into the role of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects in Pakistan’s clean energy development and green transformation.

SK Hydropower Station’s Achievements

SK Hydropower Station, mainly invested, constructed, and operated by China Energy Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., officially commenced commercial operation on September 14, 2024. To date, it has generated over 5.35 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity. As a flagship green energy project under CPEC, it continues to support Pakistan’s economic growth and energy security.
