Uganda Pulls Out of Prince Harry’s Invictus Games
The Ugandan military chief, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, announced via X that Uganda is withdrawing from Prince Harry’s Invictus Games, only two months after the country confirmed its participation.
General Kainerugaba stated: "In order not to be construed as being opposed to His Majesty King Charles III", Uganda is withdrawing from the games. A government spokesman later confirmed this decision to the BBC, emphasizing that General Kainerugaba has the authority to determine Uganda’s participation in such events.
This announcement comes after a letter sent this week on behalf of King Charles III made clear that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who have returned to the UK as non-working royals, are no longer considered working members of the royal family. The general referred to this in his X post, mentioning the "Harry-Meghan nonsense" as a potential factor in their decision.
The Invictus Games spokesperson commented: They have not received any official information about Uganda’s withdrawal and are seeking clarification. Uganda’s participation was announced in July when Prince Harry promoted the event, with the country becoming the 26th nation to join.
In his X posts, General Kainerugaba also expressed concerns about other generals dancing without his permission, alongside proclaiming himself "the most handsome, most daring, and glorious Commander who ever lived".
