Uganda to Participate in Invictus Games After Palace Reassurance
BBC News reports that Uganda will now be taking part in Prince Harry’s Invictus Games for wounded veterans, reversing a previous decision to withdraw.
Initially, Uganda’s military leaders cited a lack of approval from King Charles III as the reason for their withdrawal, specifically referencing a letter clarifying the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s non-working royal status. However, a subsequent private conversation between Sir Clive Alderton, the King’s principal private secretary, and General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s military chief, resolved any misgivings.
According to a Ugandan military spokesperson, Sir Clive "encouraged" General Kainerugaba to resume preparations for the games. The general acknowledged the King’s message and expressed his commitment to participating in the event.
This development ends a dispute that had gained attention following the Palace’s letter regarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s status, emphasizing the Palace’s ability to address concerns surrounding the Sussexes’ roles.
