Ukraine Air Raid App Apparently Hacked as Users Receive False Radiation Alert, Air Force Says
BBC News reports that Ukraine's air raid alert app was apparently hacked on Sunday, falsely claiming that Kyiv was under a radiation threat. The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed this through a Telegram message:
The Air Alarm application has probably been subjected to hostile interference. There is no radiation threat! Stay calm and follow our updates on our channel.
The Central Intelligence Agency also acknowledged the issue, urging people to use alternative information sources to verify the situation. They noted that the app malfunction led to a radiation hazard signal being played in the Lviv region. They advised the public to enable smartphone notifications, pay attention to sirens, and rely solely on official sources.
Natalya Zabolotna, the governor of Vinnytsia oblast, confirmed a cyberattack on the Air Alert app and warned against clicking on any links in the fraudulent message. The Air Alert app, supported by Ukraine's Ministry of Digital Transformation, provides instant alerts about defense warnings.
