UN Offers Help After ‘Tragic’ PIMS Hospital Fire Kills 14 Infants

UNITED NATIONS, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 27th Aug, 2026) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed his sorrow over the killing of 14 infants in a deadly fire at the gynaecology ward of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) in Islamabad on Wednesday, calling it a "tragic incident" and offering UN help.

"In the midst of tragedy, the fact that so many newborns were killed, just compounds unimaginable pain for the parents," his Spokesperson Staphane Dujarric said at the regular noon briefing at UN Headquarters in New York.

"I know the UN team in Islamabad is ready to support the government in any way possible," Dujarric added.
