UoS Marks 75 Years Of Pakistan-China Diplomatic Ties With Special Events
UrduPoint (1st Sep, 2026) reported that The University of Sargodha (UoS) celebrated the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations through a series of events celebrating bilateral friendship, educational cooperation, and cultural exchanges.
Chinese Consul General in Lahore, Mr Sun Yan, attended as the chief guest and cut a cake with UoS Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Qaisar Abbas, to commemorate the occasion. The event was organised by the Pakistan Institute of China Studies (PICS) and included Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Sarwar Awan, PICS Director Prof Dr Tahir Mumtaz Awan, deans, directors, faculty members, and students.
A conference titled “Pakistan-China at 75: Reflecting on the Journey, Shaping the Future from Enduring Friendship to a Shared Future” was also held. It began with the national anthems of Pakistan and China.
Mr Sun noted that the 75-year relationship strengthened people-to-people ties through mutual affection, cooperation, fraternity, and cultural exchanges. He highlighted their steadfast friendship as an example of peace, development, and mutual trust in the region, and encouraged further student exchanges. He also praised UoS for strengthening educational links with Chinese institutions.
Prof Dr Qaisar Abbas expressed his deep affection for China, attributing it to his own education there. He emphasized that the relationship transcended economic interests and was grounded in mutual respect, friendship, and people-to-people bonds. “Pakistan and China are indispensable to each other,” he stated, committing UoS to expanding academic cooperation with Chinese universities.
He noted the importance of promoting the Chinese language as a means of deepening people-to-people ties, citing UoS’s collaboration with Confucius Institute to advance Chinese language learning. He also spoke about joint initiatives in education, industry, and agriculture with Chinese partners, including plans for a campus in China, a modern hospital, an international boarding school, citrus value addition, and cattle farming initiatives.
Prof Dr Tahir Mumtaz Awan provided an overview of the 75-year journey of Pakistan-China relations from their establishment to the shared future vision. He highlighted PICS’s and Confucius Institute’s efforts in this regard.
