An intense exchange of words took place during a crucial meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights. The focus was on reviewing the case of Zeeshan, a Gujranwala sanitation worker who allegedly took his own life due to economic pressures and alleged human rights violations.
Tensions Arise:
As the Punjab government presented their report, a sudden clash erupted between Senator Aimal Wali Khan and Senator Abid Sher Ali. Both senators strongly criticized each other’s positions.
The meeting aimed to address Zeeshan’s tragic death, with senators expressing grave concern about the circumstances surrounding his suicide. However, the formal briefing escalated into a heated debate.
Heated Exchange:
Senator Abid Sher Ali defended the operations of the Suthra Punjab Waste Management Company in Gujranwala, sparking a fierce argument with Senator Aimal Wali Khan. The latter accused Ali of speaking inappropriately during a committee meeting:
“This is not a police station,” exclaimed Aimal Wali Khan, “nor is any investigation taking place here. Who are you to speak to me like this in the committee? Who are you?”
Abid Sher Ali retaliated with a question of his own: “What are you?” To which Aimal Wali Khan responded, "I am nothing." Ali then doubled down, asking, "No, what are you?"
This exchange created an uneasy atmosphere, prompting other committee members to intervene.
